Abstract
Non-linear transition shift (NLTS) of side core composite (SCC) MIG head was investigated by changing head and media parameters. It was found that deep gap depth and high Bs metal film on the trailing side of a core gives steep gradient of magnetic field from head gap, which helps to improve the NLTS. With the combination of high Hc and small Br/spl delta/ media and SCC MIG head, the possibility of achieving the recording density of 1 Gbit/in/sup 2/ with SCC MIG head was demonstrated.
