Abstract

The prime focus of this study is the scattering-based analysis of the south polar crater of the lunar surface. Chandrayaan-2 Dual-Frequency SAR (DFSAR) system’s fully polarimetric L-band data for a crater of the permanently shadowed region (PSR) is analyzed to identify the scattering behavior of the crater. The roll-invariant polarimetric parameters were extracted from the coherency matrix of the fully polarimetric SAR data (PolSAR). Hybrid/compact polarimetric simulation was performed to convert the data in circular transmit and linear receive mode from the linear polarization quad-pol L-band SAR data. A relation between fully polarimetric parameters derived Alpha and Entropy and hybrid/compact Stokes parameters derived circular polarization ratio (CPR) is studied. A very high correlation between CPR-Alpha, CPR-Entropy, and Alpha-Entropy was observed for the PSR.
