Abstract

Ultrasound diagnostic instruments use acoustic signals to form pictures of the inner structures of the human body; they play a leading role in modern medical diagnostics. The variety of currently manufactured models of ultrasound instrument is so great that it is useful to consider them in groups according to their functional tasks. We will also con-" sider the design characteristics of modern instruments, which include the types and methods of scanning, the types of probes used, the modes of operation, and the methods of processing and displaying the data. The level of the technical parameters as well as the complexity and price of instruments depend largely on these characteristics.
