Abstract

Dermatomyositis (DM) is an idiopathic inflammatory myopathy with classic cutaneous findings such as Gottron's papules of the hands and a heliotrope rash around the eyes, poikiloderma in a photosensitive distribution on the upper back, and V sign on the neck and chest, and periungual changes including hyperkeratotic, ragged cuticles, periungual erythema, capillary loss, and also irregularly enlarged and bushy capillaries with hemorrhage. Scalp involvement is commonly seen in DM and presents as a diffuse, erythematous, scaly, atrophic dermatosis with the common symptoms being burning, pruritus or burning pruritus.
