Abstract

The cross section for quasi-free nucleon knockout by inelastic electron scattering (e, e′N) is shown to depend on two scaling variables: y used in inclusive (e, e′) reactions and z = ( p f / M) sin θ p , the transverse component of the initial and final nucleon velocity. We show that for given y and z the coincidence cross section is determined by a single spectral function of y 2 + z 2. A sum rule relates the spectral function to the nuclear response measured in inclusive reactions.
