Abstract

The loss of pheromone sticky-trap efficiency due to trap saturation was examined for Platynota idaeusalis (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae). The relative efficiency of a trap with a sticky surface of 450 cm2 was reduced after only 20 tufted apple budmoths had been caught. This critical density was the same regardless of whether moths were left on the trap or removed. The decrease in relative efficiency was significantly more rapid when moths were left on traps than when moths were removed.
