Abstract

Abstract A new series of organometallic ionic chelates of the type [Cp2Ti(sal)]+[ROCS2]− and [Cp2Ti(sal)]+[R′R″NCS2]− where Hsal [dbnd] salicylaldehyde; R [dbnd] Me, Et, i-Pr or i-Bu and R′ [dbnd] R″ [dbnd] Me, Et, i-Pr; R′ [dbnd] Me, R″ [dbnd] benzyl or R′ [dbnd] Et, R″ [dbnd] m-tolyl, have been synthesised in aqueous medium by the reaction of Cp2TiCl2 with salicylaldehyde followed by ion exchange with ROCS2 −K+ and R′R″NCS− 2Na+, respectively. These compounds have been characterized by chemical analyses, electrical conductance, electronic, IR and 1H NMR spectral studies. These studies indicate that the complexes are 1:1 electrolytes with the salicylaldehyde ligand acting as a bidentate ligand in all these complexes, consistent with a tetrahedral coordination about the titanium atom.
