Abstract

Removal of bile duct stones is sometimes unsuccessful when standard techniques are used with ERCP. Electrohydraulic lithotripsy (EHL) with peroral cholangioscopy (POCS) guidance is an option for treating difficult bile duct stones (DBDS). A newly developed POCS system, SpyGlass DS (SpyDS; Boston Scientific Corp., Marlborough, MA, USA), has recently become available, and it allows unimpeded fragmentation of stones using EHL. Although the efficacy of SpyDS-guided lithotripsy for DBDS has been recently reported, there have been no reports comparing SpyDS and conventional POCS.
