Abstract

Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is a minimally invasive treatment for esophageal motility disorders such as achalasia and spastic esophageal disorders including jackhammer esophagus. At the end of the procedure, the esophageal mucosotomy defect must be closed, usually with endoclips, though endoscopic suturing is becoming more widely used. Last year, we reported no difference in mucosotomy closure times in POEM between endoscopic suturing and clipping in 26 patients. Since then, an additional 15 patients have undergone POEM at our center.
