Abstract

A higher incidence of colorectal cancer has been recognized in patients with long-standing ulcerative colitis (UC). Surveillance colonoscopy with step biopsies for detecting UC associated dysplasia has been recommended. However, this method needs tremendous efforts with a low detection rate. The chromoendoscopy and magnifying endoscopy are helpful to detect colonic neoplasm. Pit pattern diagnosis classified (Kudo's classification) is also useful for assessing of the colonic neoplasm. On the other hand, the surface structures of UC neoplasm have not yet been well elucidated.
