Abstract
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the spectroscopy of heavy hypernuclei. The ground-state si/2 doublets of hypernuclei with an odd number of core nucleons are examined. Using the present knowledge of the Λ-N force, this chapter presents that the lower member of the doublet can be expected to satisfy the rule π= (— 1)J and predictions are made for the doublet splittings throughout the periodic table. The magnetic moments of the doublet states are discussed, as well as the μ-1 transition rate between them. This chapter reviews odd–odd nuclei, and presents the validity of the various predictions for hypernuclei. Λ hypernuclei is one of the simplest examples of an impurity in a system with known properties in the nucleus. Because the density of nuclear matter is constant, the depth of the potential will also be constant, and the radius can be expected to increase.
