Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand the wake characteristic and wake vortex structures of two parallel flat plates with periodic disturbance. Separated shear layer which form wake without reverse-flow region is unstable and rolls up into the vortex with various structures. We have made two parallel flat plates in order to make the wake with wide width and without reverse-flow region. Wake characteristics and wake vortex structures in the wake of the parallel plates with periodic disturbance were investigated by measurement of velocity fluctuations and by the flow visualization, respectively. As the result, it was found that there are various significant difference in waveform of velocity fluctuations and spectra, and the wake characteristics have various phenomena. Flow patterns in the vortex roll-up process on various disturbance frequency were showed.
