Abstract

Ti-24at%Nb-3at%Al shape memory alloys were fabricated by powder metallurgy (PM) process. The fabrication conditions of the alloy and its mechanical and shape memory properties were investigated. The relative density of the as-sintered alloy was more than 98% at a sintering temperature of more than 1173 K. The microstructure of the as-sintered alloy was consisted of α" phase and β phase. The microstructure of the as-sintered was homogenized by solution treatment. As a result, the ratio of β phase increased with increasing solution treatment time. The tensile strength and elongation of the alloy sintered at 1223 K and solution-treated at 1273 K for 43.2 ks were 560 MPa and 1.2%, respectively. The solution treated alloy showed a superelastic-like behavior in the stress-strain curve.
