Abstract
WE HAVE a coalition government whose education department so far seems intent on giving more ‘power to the people’. Free schools, academy status, teachers being given more freedom to teach (sounds good on paper, wonder what the reality will be like?) and other nods to greater freedom and more chances to wrestle free from the tight grip of central control. These are all positive ideas and many of you reading this will hope that the same freedoms are extended to the early years sector – although we do have to hope that greater freedoms are not bought by funding cuts and a haphazard approach to standards.
