Purpose This study aims to analyze the role of information literacy (IL) as a mediating variable in the connection between the independent and dependent variables, Access to Information Resources, Digital Literacy Skills, Information Searching Behavior, Awareness of Library Services, Library Instruction Programs, Staff Support and Guidance, and Technological Infrastructure and User Satisfaction in the context of a university library. The article provides a theoretically sound and empirically validated model of user satisfaction in academic libraries, building upon the information systems (IS) success model. Design/methodology/approach The present study is a quantitative research, and a survey has been conducted among 380 university library users in Bangladesh. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze direct and indirect effects of independent variables on user satisfaction through information literacy (IL) using SmartPLS. Findings Results show that most of the impacts of library service aspects on user satisfaction are mediated by IL. So the direct effects of Digital Literacy and Instruction Programs were weak. Predictive relationships are strong for Staff Support, Technological Infrastructure, and Access to Resources. These results reinforce IL as a key factor for improving the quality of academic library services. Research limitations/implications By incorporating IL as a primary mediator in the IS success model, the study advances theoretical knowledge about how user-based factors shape overall satisfaction. It contributes to academic discussion through the incorporation of service quality, system quality and information quality in a single model tailored to the library sciences field. Practical implications The results provide managerial implications for library administration to enhance user satisfaction. Investment strategically in IL programs, staff development and technological infrastructure is important for nurturing a responsive and effective academic library. Originality/value This is the first study to frame IL as a change catalyst in an existing theoretical model, providing conceptual clarity and pragmatic prescription. It contributes to the existing literature by empirically examining a comprehensive model that is designed based on academic libraries of developing countries such as Bangladesh.

  • Jan 1, 2015
  • Nripendra P Rana + 2 more

The purpose of this paper is to compare and evaluate the validity of Information systems (IS) success models such as DeLone and McLean's (1992), Seddon's (1997), and DeLone and McLean's (2003) IS success models for an e-government application called the Online Public Grievance Redressal System (OPGRS) in context of India. The paper also provides an integrated model of IS success based on the comparison of the three well-known IS success models. All the existing models of IS success are not considered in their original shapes as this research is not using the variables such as use, individual impact, organizational impact from DeLone and McLean (1992) IS success model, use and net benefits from DeLone and McLean (2003) IS success model, and other measures of net benefits of IS use including net benefits to individuals, organizations, and society, and expectations about the net benefits of future IS use from Seddon's (1997) IS success model. The proposed model contains the additional constructs relevant to e-government research including complexity, trust, and facilitating conditions and found that the model performs quite satisfactorily as far as the success of the OPGRS system is concerned. The paper also discusses its limitations, provides implications for theory and practice, and proposed future lines of research which will allow the researchers, practitioners, and government to leverage the full potential of the OPGRS system to curb and eradicate corruption and to build a transparent and sanitized society.

Purpose – To continue to develop and improve cloud e-bookcases, the purpose of this paper is to implement a cloud e-bookcase and modifies the information systems (ISs) success model to make it capable of assessing this system. It also provides suggestions for future systems development. Design/methodology/approach – This study implements a cloud bookcase and uses the IS success model to evaluate user intention and satisfaction with the system. It also develops a success model for the cloud bookcase. Findings – The results of study indicate that user satisfaction and intention with regard to using the system are positively related to net benefits. In other words, increasing user satisfaction and intention with regard to using the system will have a positive effect on the benefits users receive from doing so. Practical implications – Users think the functions and services of the cloud bookcase can indeed help them search for and organize information about electronic books. However, they are not satisfied with the information quality. Therefore, further work is needed to identify any important factors that this study did not investigate. This study suggests that the quality of a system’s functions and guide service have to be upgraded in order to increase user satisfaction with and intention to use the system. Originality/value – This study implements a cloud bookcase and uses the IS success model for verification. An overall explanatory power of 77.9 percent is achieved with this approach. User satisfaction with and intention to use the system are independent from each other, and the results caused by various factors can be separately identified. The findings of this study have considerable practical value.

  • Nasser Mohammed Alhamar Alkathiri + 4 more

This study intends to explore student perception towards the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the context of higher education with specific reference to the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) - Salalah in Oman. Although AI integration in education is accelerating globally, empirical evidence on how students perceive AI tools vis-à-vis their satisfaction, usage benefit, and perceived benefits, especially within the Oman higher education context, remains scarce. To address this gap, this study investigates the effect of system quality, information quality, and service quality on user satisfaction, use benefit, and perceived net benefits, applying the DeLone and McLean Information Systems (IS) Success Model. A structured questionnaire was administered to 133 university students as part of a quantitative research approach. After that, the data was examined using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), which employed a two-stage approach to assess the structural and measurement models. Other validation of the model was performed using Q²_predict and model fit validation. The study found that the information and service quality significantly affect both user satisfaction and use benefit, which also have a net positive impact. The system, however, did not show a statistically meaningful effect on either use benefit or user satisfaction with the system's quality. This research provides the first application of the IS Success Model related to the adoption of generative AI in the context of higher education within Oman’s Vision 2040 blueprint for digital transformation.

E-Banking system and its staff user satisfaction
  • Aug 17, 2017
  • Ming-Hsiung Hsiao + 2 more

Core banking system (CBS) is an information system which provides basic functionalities such as banking transactions for banks, and is often considered the heart of the banks. Today CBS is recognized as having a key role in creating competitive edges for the banking industry. Now CBS has been more widely adopted by banks in Vietnam. It is still unclear, however, that the staff members of the banks, as the primary internal users of CBS, see this system. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to examine the factors that may have effect on user satisfaction toward CBS in the Vietnamese banking industry by applying information system (IS) success model. By surveying the staff members who work for Techcombank and have experiences in using CBS in Vietnam, this study collects data for empirical validation. The results show that all the three main constructs in the IS success model; i.e., information quality, system quality, and service quality, have positive and significant effect on user satisfaction toward CBS, indicating the applicability of the IS success model to the CBS use behavior in Vietnam. Comparatively, service quality has the strongest effect on user satisfaction, while information quality has the weakest. It is thus suggested that banks in Vietnam make more effort to improve the service quality of CBS by improving its dependability and promptness, and by keeping CBS up with the up-to-date hardware and software.

  • Sang M Lee + 1 more

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to identify the success factors of open‐source software in the enterprise level. It expands the application of the information systems (IS) success model in the literature to enterprise information systems (EIS). The paper presents a simplified open‐source EIS success model by removing several constructs in the existing open‐source software models.Design/methodology/approachTo test the research model, a survey questionnaire was developed based on previous studies dealing with IS success models and adapting them to the open‐source EIS context. The research instrument contained 30 items that represent seven constructs in the research model. Data were collected from 250 open‐source enterprise software end‐users. Due to its confirmatory nature, this study applied the structural equation model.FindingsThe results of the study indicate that only community service quality has a positive direct effect on open‐source EIS use, while information quality, EIS quality, and user satisfaction do not. Open‐source EIS quality has a direct positive effect on user satisfaction, which in turn has a positive effect on individual net benefits, which also positively affects organizational net benefits.Research limitations/implicationsThis study focused on the open‐source EIS users' perspective. Future studies could expand the scope by covering a broader open‐source EIS aspect such as motivation of its use, development processes, social dynamics in the development group, diffusion process, and the like. A longitudinal study could provide a more concrete trend of open‐source EIS use by organizations. The small sample size of this study is also a limitation.Practical implicationsThe present research provides a practical evidence of relationships in the open‐source EIS application model. The developers in on‐line open‐source communities need to take the success factors identified in this study into account when developing open‐source EIS.Originality/valueThere is a paucity of empirical studies in open‐source EIS applications. The paper expends the traditional IS success model to the open‐source EIS context by collecting and analyzing data from 150 real‐world open‐source EIS users.

Information Systems Success in the Context of Different Corporate Cultural Types: An Empirical Investigation
  • Oct 1, 2006
  • Journal of Management Information Systems
  • Randy V Bradley + 2 more

Previous studies surrounding the DeLone and McLean model of information systems (IS) success have called for future research and further examination of its measure in different contexts. We draw from the literature on strategic IS planning and organizational culture to contextualize the DeLone and McLean model. There is some evidence that a high-quality information technology (IT) plan leads to system success; therefore, we empirically examine the inclusion of the IT plan quality construct as an antecedent to IS success. We also empirically examine the relationships among constructs in the model of IS success in the context of different corporate cultural types—entrepreneurial and formal. The results provide strong support for the research model and suggest that variations in IS success are explained by the quality of the IT plan and the corporate culture exhibited by a firm. We discuss implications related to our finding that IT plan quality has a greater impact on IS success in organizations that exhibit an entrepreneurial corporate culture than in those that exhibit a formal corporate culture. Furthermore, we discuss how the relationships in the DeLone and McLean model of IS success differ in diverse corporate cultural types and the meaning of these differences.

This study provides empirical support for including IT infrastructure (ITI) as part of the information systems (IS) success model. The IS success model has been validated in high-income countries, but research in low-income countries is still lacking. This research bridges this gab by identifying ITI as a contributing construct when evaluating the IS success model in the context of low-income countries. This paper investigates the research question: when considering low-income countries, what is the role of ITI in information systems success? The research is motivated by limited ITI and limited Internet access in low-income countries that hinder the success of information systems. We conducted a survey with 102 bank employees in a low-income country – Ethiopia. The SEM-PLS analysis showed strong impact of ITI on user, user satisfaction, and net benefit. This study recommends inclusion of the ITI construct when evaluating the success of information systems and the policies that govern it.

  • Anthony Vicente M Belo + 7 more

Aviation College is a higher education institution that shifted to e-Learning as the education platform during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This shift has posed challenges, especially in developing countries like the Philippines. This study aims to evaluate students’ intentions toward using an e-learning platform at a collegiate aviation institution during the pandemic by employing an integrated extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Seddon’s Information System (IS) Success Model. The study involved 503 college students who completed an online questionnaire with 48 items representing 12 constructs. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was utilized to analyze the relationships between variables under extended TAM and IS Success Model. The findings revealed that attitude toward use had the strongest influence on behavioral intention, followed by perceived playfulness. Learning outcomes significantly impacted perceived usefulness, along with information quality, perceived ease of use, and system quality. Additionally, learning outcomes had the greatest effect on user satisfaction, followed by perceived usefulness, information quality, and system quality. Perceived usefulness had a more substantial impact on attitude toward use than perceived ease of use. Regarding perceived ease of use, system quality was the most influential factor, followed by computer self-efficacy and course design. The proposed framework enhances understanding of the relationship between technology adoption theory and the IS success model. The study’s findings can help policymakers, software developers, and educators improve the e-learning process and maintain the quality of education.

  • International Journal of Engineering & Technology
  • Najma Imtiaz Ali + 4 more

With the influx of the Internet, Business to Customer E-commerce (B2c e-Commerce) has gained popularity around the globe. Although a number of researches has been done to know the factors affecting the adoption of e-commerce, however, not much research has done to know the effects of e-commerce on online shopping success. DeLone and McLean introduced the Information System (IS) success model in year 1992, later on, refined the same model with the newer concept, to fully understand the effects of IS success. In this paper, authors have used the DeLone and McLean IS success model 2003 with addition two constructs Privacy and Trust. Seven interrelated dimensions of e-commerce were examined namely, Service Quality, System Quality, Trust, Privacy, User satisfaction and Net benefits. The proposed model and the relationship between the various constructs were measured by gathering the data from 381 users from the business faculty of Klang valley universities in Malaysia. Seven interconnected dimensions of B2C e-commerce success were confirmed namely, Service Quality, System Quality, Information Quality, Trust, Privacy along with User Satisfaction and Net Benefits. Confirmatory Factor Analysis CFA and SEM were used to analyse the collected data and proved the hypothesis. The results revealed that system quality, service quality, trust and privacy are directly related to user satisfaction which in turn directly related to net benefits, whereas information quality has no any influence on user satisfaction in terms of e-commerce.
