Abstract

This article presents the Robo‐OpeRooter, a device that can be connected to a standard water hose and inserted in the slaker piping or the tank to blast accumulated grit with a high‐velocity water jet spray. The device effectively remixes the sediment with slurry and forces it out of the pipe, so it can be collected and removed properly. The Robo‐OpeRooter is a simple device that eliminates the need to dismantle and clean pipes. It also eliminates disruptions in service because the process can be conducted without shutting down the lime slurry system, thereby avoiding treatment upset and the time previously required to reestablish service. It can be customized to specific sand, sludge, and grit applications.
