Abstract

Frost considers science and the mathematics necessary for the pursuit of science to be a powerful and pervasive part of modern life. When he discusses the composition of poetry, however, he speaks of it in terms that are antithetical to scientific and mathematical precision. Instead, he stipulates that vagueness and imprecision are necessary prerequisites for the creation of a poem. Furthermore, he suggests that self-awareness and social relations are inextricably linked to vagueness and imprecision.
