Abstract

By means of radioautography the synthesis of RNA and of proteins during the spermatocyte divisions of Pales ferruginea was investigated. The RNA synthesis decreases from early to late prophase and is blocked during and after the divisions. Protein synthesis is at a high level in prophase, and continues during the division even until the end of spermiohistogenesis. Chloramphenicol depresses protein synthesis and delays the beginning of meiotic divisions.
