Abstract
TO THE EDITOR: Our fellowship's journal club recently reviewed the article by Russmann et al. entitled Risk of Impaired Renal Function After Colonoscopy: A Cohort Study Patients Receiving Either Oral Sodium Phosphate or Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) (1). The conclusion of the article was that, in patients without pre-existing renal disease, the risk of renal impairment after colonoscopy appears to be similar between sodium phosphate and PEG users. We are concerned that the results of this retrospective database analysis cannot be safely translated into the community setting.
