Abstract

Of 2124 women delivered of their first child in the Oxford region in 1963, 21 conceived again within 90 days of delivery. 20% of these women would be expected to be seronegative. Vaccination of seronegative primiparous women against rubella during the immediate post-partum period may put early second pregnancies at risk. Post-partum vaccination should be done as soon as possible after delivery, and should be accompanied by contraceptive measures for 2-3 months.
