Abstract

AbstractThis paper presents the methodology for risk assessment in reconstruction of embankments for protection of floods caused by climate change. Main risks that appear in such projects have been identified. For assessing the risks in the project of reconstructing the Otok Virje ‐ Brezje flood protection embankment, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), one of the methods for multiple criteria decision‐making, is applied. The result of the risk assessment is a list of risk priorities. Depending on the position a risk occupies in the list, i.e. the relative value of its exposure compared to other risks, appropriate contingencies are applied as the expected response to the risk. Sensitivity analyses have shown exceptional stability of the results of the decision‐making.
