Abstract

By detecting protons from the deuteron fusion reaction and partial pressure of mass number 4, we have made for the first time a real-time observation of an intermittent eruption of deuterium gas from surfaces of single-crystal Si, Ge, and GaAs irradiated with 90 keV deuterium ions. As a result, ring-like craters are formed on the implanted surfaces.
