Abstract

Direct modulation of an uncooled 1.3 /spl mu/m InGaAsP ridge waveguide laser at 10 Gbit/s is demonstrated at temperatures up to 70/spl deg/C, with extinction ratios of >8 dB. Transmission over 2.2 km of single-mode fibre at 70/spl deg/C is achieved with a total power penalty of 2.5 dB.
