Abstract

Rhodium(III)-catalyzed ortho-C-H functionalization/spirocyclization of 2-arylquinazolinones with 1,4-quinones has been developed for the synthesis of highly rigid spiroisoindolines in good to excellent yields through CC and CN bond formations in a single-step. These scaffolds resemble to biologically active tryptanthrin frameworks.
