Abstract

Abstract — This paper presents a review of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drive based on a three-phase Modular Multilevel Inverter (MMLI) compared to conventional two level inverter. Many techniques is applied to control speed and currents of PMSM drive system such as, Fuzzy logic control, PI control and sliding mode control(SMC). In this paper, a cascaded SMC compared with PI controller is utilized for PMSM control technique. A cascaded Maximum Torqueper Ampere (MTPA) and Maximum Torque per Voltage (MTPV) algorithms also discussed in this review to control the drive through the field-weakening region to increase the speed beyond the base speed. The control algorithm is based on field-oriented control with Pulse width modulation technique. Lyapunov stability theorem is used to prove the stability of the sliding surfaces.
