Abstract

In modern manufacturing methods, the conversion time of conceptual design into rapid prototyping is less in pitching the product to the market. The research in 3D printing materials and methods of additive manufacturing increases, along with the necessity of additive manufacturing techniques. In additive manufacturing, liquid resins, solid filaments, powder polymers, and powder metals are widely used. The selection of materials based on the technique used and the 3D printing process parameters strongly influence the quality of 3D-printed material, such as layer thickness, print speed, the melting point of the resin or filaments, platform temperature, and extruder temperature. Adhesive-coated paper additive manufacturing is applied in laminated object manufacturing. The weight reduction and materials used for laminated object manufacturing are exhibited in this survey. This review article exhibits an extensive survey on the materials used in additive manufacturing, irrespective of the nature of the additive manufacturing process and methods adopted for 3D printing. The selection of methods based on the applications is summarized based on previous researches. Weight optimization and the effect of the weight-to-infill ratio on the mechanical properties are presented.
