Purpose This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the existing knowledge on financial contagion through a systematic literature review. Financial contagion, the phenomenon of events spreading and affecting financial markets, has gathered significant attention from scholars and practitioners. Numerous studies have been conducted on this topic, necessitating a thorough examination of the diverse approaches and findings related to financial contagion. Design/methodology/approach This study reviews financial contagion research in the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases, analyzing 66 articles. This review, based on selected keywords and defined criteria, has a total of 1,470 citations referencing these articles as of April 2023. Notably, the GARCH model and the Copula model emerged as prominent methodologies for investigating the financial contagion effect. Findings The results reveal the interconnectedness of financial markets, where economic and financial instabilities in one country affect others. The insights obtained from articles retrieved from the WoS and Scopus databases are as follows: The analyzed studies span the time range of 1999–2023. The publication count was minimal in 1999–2000 (1 each) and peaked in 2021 (13 articles), indicating a rising trend in research on financial contagion in recent years, reflecting an increased focus on the topic. The majority of articles related to financial contagion and corruption have multiple authors. Research limitations/implications This study’s limitation is that network indicators are only used as explanatory variables. Future research could use these indicators to illustrate the topological configurations of financial structures, elucidating the dynamic evolution of financial networks and advancing a thorough understanding of contagion mechanisms from a network perspective. Practical implications Policymakers should consider the effects of financial contagion cross various financial markets, particularly in neighboring nations, when establishing policies address a financial crisis. Countries need to protect their economic frameworks, ensure the smooth operation of their economies and manage investment decisions within acceptable risks levels. Examining the impact of financial crises and pandemics on the financial system’s vulnerability to financial contagion is essential for policymakers and risk to develop effective strategies. Originality/value By synthesizing current research findings, this paper provides insights into potential avenues for future studies on this critical topic, thereby enhancing the understanding of financial contagion. This paper enriches the existing literature by presenting a systematic overview of financial contagion research, concentrating on financial contagion during periods of financial crises and pandemics and emphasizing the increasing interest in this field in recent years. Furthermore, this paper adds to the literature on the financial contagion effects of COVID-19, offering a clearer understanding of the nature of this crisis and its distinctive characteristics.

This systematic review of research on gambling sponsorship provides insight into the current state of the art of gambling sponsorship research, a theoretical framework for understanding the mechanisms underlying gambling sponsorship’s effects, and a future research agenda to guide advertising scholars. Literature searches in Scopus and Web of Science resulted in a total of 46 publications that focus on gambling sponsorships, which can be grouped into three research clusters: exposure, impact, and ethics of gambling sponsorships. The review shows that extant research has mainly focused on sports sponsorships by gambling companies and that these sports sponsorships are omnipresent in the lives of both adults and minors. Although a positive association between exposure to gambling sports sponsorships and consumers’ gambling attitudes and intentions may be assumed, causal and longitudinal research investigating the impacts of gambling sponsorships is limited. The review also shows that there is a lack of theory explaining consumers’ responses to gambling sponsorships, although the gambling industry is a very specific industry and gambling sponsorships can be considered unhealthy sponsorships. We therefore propose a theoretical framework to better understand how gambling sponsorship works, which may guide future research on this topic.

Background; Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is an essential aspect of today’s healthcare landscape through which high-quality scientific research evidence can be obtained and translated into the best practical decisions to improve health outcomes. Nurses and midwives deliver the highest proportion of direct patient/client care, and therefore need to utilize evidence based practice to ensure quality patient care. Despite the great importance of evidence-based care, majority practices shown to be effective by research remain unused in the nursing field. Nurses and other health care providers often cite barriers that prevent its delivery. Objective: To describe barriers and enablers to, successful implementation of evidence based Practice in nursing Methods: A Systematic mixed-studies review of literature, synthesizing quantitative and qualitative research was done. The review involved a search on multiple data base engines which included COCHRANE, google scholar and PubMed. A search of the database using keywords (implementation, adoption, compliance, Evidence based practice (EBP), nurses, barrier, challenges and facilitators was conducted. Results: A total of 43 articles were reviewed. Two common themes were identified as barriers to EBP. Individual barriers and organizational barriers. Individual barriers identified include inadequate knowledge on EBP, time constraints and nurse’s attitude towards EBP. Organizational barriers were lack of administrative support and lack of autonomy in nursing. Enablers of EBP identified were administrative support, engagement of stakeholders and nurses autonomy Conclusion: The key barriers to EBP implementation in nursing are deficient knowledge on EBP, time constraints and lack of autonomy in nursing. The barriers can however be overcome by supporting an environment that prioritizes EBP. Recommendations: Addressing barriers to EBP implementation will enhance quality of nursing care leading to better patient’ outcomes. To mitigate the barriers, targeted enablers such as trainings and workshops on EBP, supportive leadership and increasing nurses autonomy ought to be put in place.

Purpose The study aims to undertake a systematic literature review (SLR) of recent research on working capital management (WCM), emphasizing the identification of major drivers and methodologies used. Furthermore, the study includes a comparative citation analysis to evaluate the scholarly impact, identify gaps in the current literature and propose future research directions to advance the field. Design/methodology/approach The study conducted an SLR on 54 peer-reviewed papers extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection and Scopus databases from 2021 to June 2024. The study conducted a detailed text analysis to determine the research drivers for WCM, the methodology used and possible future directions for research based on the major findings. Findings The findings revealed that firm-specific attributes were the most examined in the previous literature, such as firm size, age, performance, leverage and asset structure, however, the result is still inconclusive. Also, limited work was found on corporate governance and top management attributes. Originality/value This pioneering study offers a systematic and comprehensive review of recent research on WCM drivers. It stands out by categorizing WCM determinants into internal and external factors, including firm-specific, governance, top management and country-specific attributes. As the first SLR to do so, it provides a thorough analysis of key drivers and methodologies. The findings lay a solid foundation for future research, encouraging scholars to explore new drivers, refine methodologies and address existing gaps in the WCM literature.

Opportunities for children to be involved in the decisions made about them is a part of current statutory educational legislation. Person‐centred planning (PCP) has been proposed as an appropriate method of meeting statutory requirements. However, there is a dearth of research into its application within education. The paper describes a systematic literature review of current research into PCP within education for pupils with SEMH and the associated outcomes. PCP appears to be an effective way of engaging children, young people and their families but research within education is currently limited and methodologically weak. More rigorous research is needed into PCP and its effectiveness and should include the use of standardised and/or observable measures, more varied ranges of contexts and participants, and longitudinal and child‐led designs.

: The authors carried out a review study on the pedagogy for teaching communication skills (CS) in engineering higher education institutions with a view to firstly present the trend on the instructional pedagogical approaches used in an engineering classroom and secondly, to show the impact of these approaches on learners' development of CS. In order to address the research questions, we adopted 'Systematic Literature Review' as a research methodology and reviewed empirical research studies published between the year 2001 and 2021 exploring electronic database. Having followed the review protocols, we finally selected 26 research articles for a detailed analysis and synthesis. In regard with number of publications, the trends placed the USA at the top position which was followed by India. Overall, we found a lack of experimental research, subsequently a lack of evidence-based teaching practice, in the domain of pedagogy for developing CS leading to the assumption of still prevalent conventional lecture method of teaching in the CS classroom which is further held responsible for poor CS among engineering graduates. The teaching trend indicates that engineering institutions across nations are increasingly becoming aware of evidenced-based teaching approaches and are adopting innovative, learner-centered methods blended with ICT tools to facilitate the process of developing CS, along with other generic skills which has positive impact on learners' development of skills and attributes. The findings have implications for both; research and classroom teaching. Keywords : communication skills; engineering education; instructional pedagogy; systematic literature review.

Situation awareness is shown through human factors research to be a valuable construct to understand and improve how humans perform while operating complex systems in critical environments. Within cyber security one such environment is the Security Operations Center (SOC). With the increasing threat of hybrid warfare, knowledge about situation awareness within SOC environments, where human error or low performance may be detrimental, must be developed. This paper reports on the results of a Systematic Descriptive Literature Review of the current research on situation awareness within SOCs. The goal of the paper is to analyze how situation awareness is understood in the current research. To achieve this goal three aspects of understanding were addressed: Theoretical foundations; levels of conceptualization; and measurement of situation awareness. Theoretical foundations in the literature were assessed by how situation awareness was defined and the presence of references to theoretical models of SA. The results show a clear trend of basing the research on Endsley's three level situation awareness model; this model has been developed into a domain specific formulation called “Cyber Situation Awareness”. Some parts of the literature, particularly in research aimed at developing tools for improving situation awareness, lack a theoretical foundation; some refer to alternative theoretical foundations of situation awareness like Stanton et al.’s Distributed Situation Awareness. Further, a balance between conceptualizations on the individual, group and system level has been identified. Within research aimed at developing tools for improving situation awareness there are some examples of specialized and precise measurements of situation awareness, but in general the research seems too reliant on indirect measures of situation awareness. The paper concludes with the proposition of connecting the systems-based theoretical perspective of distributed situation awareness into the research, utilizing a systems level conceptualization of situation awareness. This might prove to be a useful bridge between the human cognitive perspective of situation awareness and the development of the complex technical environment of critical importance that SOCs represent.

The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans (Guidelines) advises older adults to be as active as possible. Yet, despite the well documented benefits of physical activity just 12.8% of those ages 65 and older meet the Guidelines. To address this, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) developed a Midcourse Report focused on effective strategies to improve older adult physical activity behaviors. The first step in this process was a systematic literature review. A literature review team was contracted to examine the evidence on key settings and effective behavioral intervention strategies, as well as effective policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) approaches, to improve physical activity among older adults. The PSE search employed an equity-centered framework adapted to researching PSE approaches for improving physical activity outcomes in older adults. Sixteen thousand eight hundred and eighty-three titles and abstracts were screened, and 734 full articles were reviewed for inclusion. Of those, 64 original research articles were included for the final review to answer two questions, one (plus 5 sub-questions) focused on Settings/Strategies literature (45 studies) and one (plus 2 sub-questions) focused on PSE literature (19 studies). The literature review process identified key settings and evidence-based strategies to support older adults in becoming more physically active, and provides a foundation for the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans Midcourse Report: Implementation Strategies for Older Adults. More research is needed to address how factors related to equity and psychosocial constructs influence physical activity behaviors among older adults.

PurposeThe objective of this systematic literature review (SLR) is to explore the current state of research in the field of household finance (HF). This study aims to summarize the existing research to highlight the importance of household finance in a nation’s economy. By exploring all conceptual and applied implications of HF, this study projects directions for future research to develop a comprehensive understanding of the subject.Design/methodology/approachThis SLR is based on 112 articles published in peer-reviewed journals between 2006 and 2020 (Table 3). The methodology comprises five steps, namely, formulation of research questions, identification of studies, their selection and evaluation, analyses and syntheses and presentation of results.FindingsThe findings of this study show that studies on HF are gradually increasing worldwide with the USA registering the highest number of published research on the topic during the period under scrutiny. Notwithstanding the increasing attention and research on HF, empirical research in emerging economies is lagging. Additionally, this study finds that HF structure presents a perfect setting to understand how households compose their financial portfolio, make financial decisions and what factors influence their decisions.Research limitations/implicationsThis study is an SLR – an accurate and accepted method of reviewing available literature on a selected subject. However, the selection of inclusion and exclusion criteria depends on the researchers’ rationale which might lead to research bias. This should be considered an inherent limitation of SLR.Practical implicationsBy synthesizing the contents of extant literature, this study presents important insights into HF. This study underlines the most discussed topics in the domain and identifies potential investigation areas. This study gives the knowledge of leading articles, authors and journals and informs scholars and academicians about the areas that need further investigation by portraying the complete picture of the subject in a systematic manner. Further, this study highlights that households make suboptimal financial decisions that affect their financial well-being. To reduce the adverse impacts of these decisions, policymakers and financial institutions must take steps to improve households’ use of formal financial markets. Household decisions can be reformed by enhancing consumers’ knowledge about financial products and services. Furthermore, households can be served better by offering customization in traditional financial products.Originality/valueThis study synthesizes the main findings of selected literature on HF. The expansion of studies on HF has generated the need to review the existing literature in a systematic manner. To the researchers’ best knowledge, this SLR is the first thorough study of available articles in the HF domain. This study presents the scope of future research by highlighting numerous aspects and functions of HF.

Short-term international mobility programs are being increasingly adopted by universities to achieve internationalisation, secure international accreditation and prepare graduates for global careers. A plethora of beneficial outcomes of student participation in short-term mobility education programs [Roy, A., A. Newman, T. Ellenberger, and A. Pyman. 2019. ‘Outcomes of International Student Mobility Programs: A Systematic Review and Agenda for Future Research.’ Studies in Higher Education 44 (9): 1630–1644; Waibel, S., H. Ruger, A. Ette, and L. Sauer. 2017. ‘Career Consequences of Transnational Educational Mobility: A Systematic Literature Review.’ Educational Research Review 20: 81–98] has motivated governments and universities to fund such programs [Pfotenhauer, S. M., J. S. Jacobs, D. J. Newman, and D. T. Roos. 2013. ‘Seeding Change Through International University: The MIT-Portugal Program as a Driver of Internationalization, Networking and Innovation.’ Higher Education 26: 217–242; Quan, R., A. Pearce, and Y. Baranchenko. 2017. ‘Educational Mobility in Transition: What Can China and The UK Learn from Each Other?’ Journal of Management Development 36 (6): 828–843; and Sin, C., O. Tavares, and G. Neave. 2017. ‘Student Mobility in Portugal: Grappling with a Adversity.’ Journal of Studies in International Education 21 (2): 120–135]. Scholarly work on student mobility in education has grown phenomenally in the last two decades. However, the specific study of antecedents of student participation which shape a student’s decision to participate in short-term mobility programs has not received adequate attention in literature. The need to study antecedents of student participation in mobility is highly relevant and critical to the creation of student opportunities for participation in such programs. With this aim, our paper undertakes a comprehensive review of scholarly works thus far on antecedents of student participation in short-term mobility programs classifying antecedents into personal and contextual antecedents. We identify areas of study needed to enhance scholarly understanding of antecedents of student participation and propose an agenda for future research complemented with recommendations for studying antecedents to short-term mobility participation.

The paper aims to review FinTechs' landscape in the context of their impact on countries' sustainable development reflected by SDG goals. The systematic literature review (SLR) applied the PRISMA methodology. It proved the worldwide systematically increasing scientific interest in surveying FinTechs and their contribution to SDGs' achievement. This trend has not yet been observed in Europe. Only a few papers directly refer to the relationship between FinTechs' and SDGs' achievement in European countries. Most of the research is qualitative. The topics range from conceptual framework to specific accomplishments of FinTech projects undertaken mainly by governments. They mostly refer to poverty alleviation through financial inclusion. The results of the systematic review of scientific research have shed light on the existing academic literature embracing both FinTech and SDGs issues, explored emerging trends in current research, and identified the main areas for further investigation.
