Abstract

1. Monitoring organized in September 1978 by means of actual observations permits prompt evaluation of the work and state of the high gravity-arch dam of the Sayano-Shushenskoe hydrostation at various stages of filling the reservoir. 2. The on-site observations made in 1978–79 during rise of the upper pool level by 76 m showed that the work of the dam under the effect of the increasing water load during the indicated rise of the level is completely regular and causes no dangers. The measured parameters characterizing the state of the structure (settlements, inclinations, stresses, uplift) are within the norm and the rock-concrete contact joint is practically closed. 3. For timely grouting of the Sayano-Shushenskoe dam it is necessary to increase the effectiveness of cooling the concrete masonry.
