Abstract

We investigated the coda wave quality factor ( Q c ) for the Rampart-Dall City seismic zone in northcentral Alaska. The data for local earthquakes analyzed were recorded digitally (100 samples/s) by a temporary vertical component short-period station located within the above zone and two events recorded by a similar station located in the greater Fairbanks area. The data were filtered using 9 pass-bands, whose center frequencies range from 0.8 Hz to 12 Hz with octave bandwidth. On the basis of the single scattering model, the values of Q c obtained were found to vary in the range between 168 and 891 in the above frequency (ƒ) interval (0.8–12 Hz). This variation, particularly for ƒ ≧ 1 Hz, is similar to that known for the Fairbanks seismic zone in central Alaska.
