Abstract
Multiphoton ionization (MPI) and third-harmonic generation (THG) in gaseous carbon monoxide (CO) have been studied using photons generated from a Nd:YAG-pumped tunable dye laser (Quanta-Ray). The MPI and THG were studied in a static-gas ionization cell with a vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) radiation detector as shown in Fig. 1. In both experiments the dye laser output was focused to give a power density on the order of 109 W/cm2.
