Abstract

Inverse Raman scattering in red-HgI 2 single crystals at 1.6 K is observed with the use of two tunable nanosecond pulse lasers. The A 1g Raman scattering cross section is estimated from the inverse Raman signal intensity. It is enhanced toward the exciton level and amounts to 0.1 (cm sr) −1 at 1.6 meV lower than the level. In contrast with the case of dye solution reported by Haushalter and Morris, inversion of the spectral shape is not observed even in the large absorption region.
