Abstract
This was the most productive research assignment so far in this course because it led me to questions that narrowed down my broad topic of volunteerism. At first, I thought that finding a topic in the general area of servant-leadership was an accomplishment, but I had yet to refine any question that would be grounding-breaking work, akin to the pending Ph.D. dissertation criteria. This assignment brought me closer to it. The roadrunner search from the library, allowed me to (a) filter volunteer parameters to government intervention (federal mandates), (b) order articles through this university’s interlibrary loan service, and (c) become better versed in more technical, sociological terms associated with upcoming project. Examples include: prosocial behavior, functional approach, and self-determination theory.
