Abstract

Granular Co mputing (GrC) i s a new concep t and comp uting para digm of inf ormation p rocessing. Just as a great umbrella, it may be regarded as a label of theories, methodologies, techniques, and tools that uses gran ules to m ake gr oups, classes, or clu sters. “GrC” is a superset o f the theory o f fu zzy information granulation, rough set theory, the theory of the quotient space a nd Interval computing etc, which is a branch of granular mathematics. It plays an important role in information processing for fuzzy, uncertainty, partial truth and soft computing and is one of the main study streams in AI. This paper has summarized the ideas, researches and the basic issues of GrC; it has not only summarized the main idea of the three typical models and made a simple evaluation but also has illustrated the relationship of the three typical models and narrated the main principles and conclusions of the new model syncretized by the three typical models. In the end, the author of this paper points out some advice and expectations for the further researches of the Granular Computing.
