Abstract

Thymus is a centrol immune organ in human body, and a place where T lymphocytes mature. Lymphoid progenitor cells which are generated in the bone marrow enter the thymus through the blood, and interact with thymic stromal cells, and develop to CD4+/CD8+ T cells. The mature T cells return to the blood and finally play role in cell immunity. Many genes are involved in thymus development and aging, for example Foxn1, Hox, Wnt4,etc. These genes form a network of mutual restraint effect in the thymic tissue, which regulates the growth and aging of thymus. Recent studies show that miRNA also plays an important role in these events. The mechanism of thymic development and aging is still not clear. This article summaries the recent progress on the mechanisms of gene regulation during the thymic development and aging.
