Research on the Quality and Level of Urbanization in the Baoshan District, Shanghai

Abstract

To an objective, scientific analysis of the development of urbanization in Baoshan District, Shanghai, the paper uses TOPSIS evaluation method (TOPSIS) to evaluate the quality and level of urbanization in the Baoshan District. In assessing the level of urbanization in Baoshan District, using the relevant data of Shanghai census and statistical bulletin in 2010, selecting to reflect the characteristics of the indicators of the urban region, including the regional GDP per unit area, population density, the proportion of non-agricultural population, non-agricultural output value the proportion of the four indicators, various regional location quotient calculated as a measure of the relative level of a regional urbanization. In evaluating the quality of urbanization development in Baoshan District, this paper constructs the four categories (the economic development, the quality of life, social development, ecological environment) and 28 specific indicators. Using TOPSIS evaluation method (TOPSIS), to assess the quality of urbanization development in eight suburbs of Shanghai (Baoshan District, Minhang District, Jiading District, Songjiang District, Qingpu District, Fengxian District, Jinshan District, Chongming County). Based on the composite score and a comparative analysis, this paper identifies the advantages and disadvantages of the urban development process in Baoshan District, and provides a theoretical basis for policy-making in the future.
