Abstract

The strength tests of 7 wooden columns were carried out to understand the service-beyond wooden members and their residual strength. Six of these specimens were reinforced with GFRP and the other one was not. The results show that the ultimate load, ductility and lateral stiffness of reinforced columns are significantly improved. Moreover, the improvement of the performances is closely related to layers of FRP and the pasting method. On the basis of the strength model for concrete columns reinforced by FRP, a model for the reinforced wood column was given. The value of k 1 was obtained by the linear regression from experiment data. The model will be used to investigate the bearing capacity of wooden columns reinforced with GFRP.
