Abstract

Sallie M. Brodus, Research Projects Manager of the Correctional Industries Association, Inc., presents a research note on Programs in Correctional Institutions. The United States has the largest incarcerated population in the world with more than 1.8 million inmates in jails and prisons. The average prison population has increased 6.2 percent annually and has doubled since 1995. The correctional system has the complex task of affecting change in the cycle of criminality. Its responsibility to transition offenders from prison into the community as productive and law‐abiding citizens is filled with a myriad of obstacles. Ms. Brodus’ bibliography as presented reports on more than 100 documents relative to five areas purported to impact recidivism.
