Research on Multicultural Education in Connection with Art Subjects to Promote Multicultural Sensitivity

Abstract

세계화의 흐름 속에서 서로 다른 문화를 인정하며 나름의 독자성을 구축해 나가는 일은 시대적 당면 과제가 되었다. 아울러 미래세대들에게 다문화사회를 준비시키고 다문화사회의 구성원들을 이해시키기 위한 교육활동이 학교교육의 중요 과제가 되고 있다. 본 연구는 개별 교과의 교육과정과 연계한 다문화 교육을 통해 다문화 교육의 지속성과 체계성을 확립할 수 있다는 전제하에 미술교과 내용에 다문화교육 관련 소재를 연관시켜 미술수업을 설계하고 이를 중학생들을 대상으로 실시하여그 결과를 분석해 봄으로써 학교 현장에서 미술 교과와 연계한 다문화 교육의 가능성과 한계를 진단하고 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 본 연구에서 도출된 결과는 첫째, 학생들은 작품 속 소수자를 타고난 인권을 지닌 존엄한 인간으로 생각하면서 자신의 경험에 비추어 보면서 공감적 태도를 보였고, 자신과 다른 점에 대한 ‘차이’에 대해서는 관용적 태도를 보였다. 둘째, 다문화감수성 교육에 대한 미술교과 연계 접근은 다문화 교육의 구체적 지향점과 학습자의 감정, 정서와의 통합을 강조함으 로써 학생들로 하여금 ‘공감적 이해’에 도달하는 데 도움을 주었다. 이 과정에서 연구자는 학생들의 다문화 감수성 발달에 미술이 적극 기여할 수 있음을 유추할 수 있었다.In this study, on the premise that multicultural education in connection with the curriculum of individual subjects can establish continuity and systemicity of multicultural education, art classes are designed by linking multicultural education-related materials to art curriculum content, and are conducted for middle school students. By analyzing the results, it was attempted to diagnose the possibilities and limitations of multicultural education in connection with art subjects at school sites, and to obtain implications. The results derived from this study were first, that the students showed a sympathetic attitude in the light of their own experiences, thinking of minorities in the works as dignified human beings with innate human rights, and a tolerant attitude toward differences about their differences. showed Second, the art subject-linked approach to multicultural sensitivity education helped students to reach empathic understanding by emphasizing the specific direction of multicultural education and integration with learners emotions and emotions. In this process, the researcher was able to infer that art can actively contribute to the development of students multicultural sensitivity.
