Abstract

In order to research on the phenomenon of damage and fracture cause by BB(Bearing Ball) impact on flat glass, numerical calculated model is established with finite element software, the penetrated effect of BB with different velocity impact on flat glass was simulated, combined with the experimental data, the fracture and failure wave produced in flat glass is discussed. The calculated fracture feature of glass coincides with result of experiment, numerical simulation illustrated the crack development in flat glass. The research shows that, along with the BB’s velocity increasing, the diameter of punched hole and the area of spall is increased no longer, the lens area in fracture surface disappeared, the fog area in fracture surface increased; when the impact pressure in glass is between 0.5~0.9 HEL s , the velocity of failure wave which generated in flat glass is approximately 3.3km/s, the failure wave is generated earlier due to the impact velocity increase.
