Abstract

SUMMARY A virus-serum neutralization (VSN) test is described that uses an inclusion body hepatitis virus (IBHV) agent as the antigen. This test readily demonstrated neutralizing indices (NI's) in susceptible birds exposed to the agent either directly by oral, eyedrop, intramuscular (IM), or intra-abdominal (IA) administration, or indirectly by contact with inoculated birds. Neutralizing indices were consistently high with all of the inoculation routes 4 weeks postinoculation (PI). A titer of approximately 1036 EID5o/ml was sufficient to stimulate significant NI's when the agent was administered by the eyedrop route.
