Introduction

Health is defined by the World Health Organisation as: “A state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Research for health includes studies in many areas. Some of the key health issues needing research studies in Sri Lanka include, ensuring household food security, the increasing problem of non-communicable diseases, pollution related health problems, mitigating the effects of climate change on health, changing patterns of infectious diseases and health systems research, which involves financing, organizing and delivery of health services.
