Abstract

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has huge potential advantages in the treatment of chronic pain. The mechanism of TCM in treatment of chronic pain is a synergistic effects with multiple molecular pathways at the same time, and involves a variety of peripheral mechanisms such as inflammation, immunity, blood circulation, tissue function and metabolism as well as the receptor mechanism of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA), substance P (SP), monoaminergic and other central neurotransmitters and related nuclear gene transcription mechanisms. Treatment of chronic pain with TCM has a definite analgesic effect, little influence on the body tissue, long-term application, and low toxic and side effects. It is an important direction for the discovery of pain treatment method and analgesic drugs.
