Abstract

This study investigated the requirements, reasons and strategies for sustainable consortium for effective library services delivery in state university libraries in South-South, Nigeria. The descriptive research design was adopted for this study. This study is conducted in all the state university libraries in the South-South, Nigeria. The population of the study comprises of all the librarians in the institutions under investigation, which amounted to 376 from the 10 universities under investigation. From the online and hard copy content validated structured questionnaire administered to these institutions under investigation only 251 were returned, representing 66.76%. Findings revealed that, greater percentage agreed that certain facilities need to be put in place for library consortium to be effective. Furthermore, so many reasons were postulated for engaging in library consortium services and the various methods that can be used to enhance effective library consortium were revealed.
