Abstract

Scott and Rusakov (1) pointed out some similar as well as inconsistent findings between our recent PNAS article (2) and their previous article (3). Methods are quite different between these studies. They measured basal Ca2+ levels and action potential-induced Ca2+ transients at single mossy fiber boutons (3). We adopted simultaneous recordings of synaptic strength and presynaptic Ca2+ transients from populations of synapses (2) to correlate both parameters quantitatively.
