Abstract

Replacement of the anterior part of the mandible is best effected by a “U” shaped block bone graft cut from the iliac crest and inlaid into the mandibular stumps. It must be wired into place in such a fashion that the pull of the soft tissues does not cause rotation of the graft about the anterior border of the bone stumps producing the “bucket handle” deformity. Successful reconstruction by this technique is demonstrated.
