Abstract

An editorial is presented which addresses the author's views about the potential repeal of America's Dickey Amendment from 1996 in order to facilitate epidemiological research on firearm injuries and deaths in the U.S. Mistrust and political polarization are examined, along with public health research, America's gun policies, and the concept of guns as symbols of White authority in the U.S. American gun ownership and the prevention of school shootings are assessed.
