Abstract
The renal function, as measured with inulin and para-aminohippuric acid clearance tests, and the protein excretion in 16 transplanted kidneys observed for 6 to 26 months are reported. The mean clearance of inulin was 45 ml/min/1.73 m2 and that of para-aminohippuric acid 278 ml/min/1.73 m2. The mean filtration fraction was 0.16. In the living donor group the inulin clearance had generally decreased more than the para-aminohippuric acid clearance in the recipient as compared to the donor. All but two of the patients showed proteinuria above 200 mg/24 hours, and four above 1 g/24 hours. The frequent occurrence of low filtration fractions and proteinuria is believed to indicate glomerular damage.
