Abstract
We report measurements of the nonlinear phase shift induced on a light beam by nematic liquid crystal films above the threshold of the optical Friedericksz transition for different temperatures, showing an excellent agreement between the experimental data and the predictions of the Maier-Saupe theory both for the threshold behavior and for the saturation behavior with temperature.
