Abstract

This is a famous spoof paper, accepted by the Editor of Die Naturwissenschaften in good faith and published in 1931. It pokes fun at the mystical properties claimed by Eddington and others for the number 137. Translated from Die Naturwissenschaften2, 38 (1931), and reprinted from A RANDOM WALK IN SCIENCE, an anthology compiled by WeberR. L. and published by Institute of Physics, 1973.
