Abstract
The ethical principles and social life of Latgale Latvians have been largely determined by the Catholic Church and the traditions of living with other ethnic groups. The common national identity of Latvians, in comparison with other regions of Latvia, until the 20th century. s. has been limited. Researching this issue, the aim of the article is to find out what conditions have influenced Latgalian culture initially and today.
